Who is this Tamasine?

A retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, Tamasine is now one of the Founders of The Tutto Luccica Corporation. This small business is my outlet for creative avenues I enjoy and wish to share with others.  As a school girl my mother, an amazing seamstress in her own right, made all of our clothes and attempted to show us how to sew as well. I was not a willing student. With the birth of my first child however, during a period of bedrest, my good friend from the south told me I needed to do something that would be good for me and for the baby. She taught me to smock — English smocking to be specific and she is very good at it. My mother came to help me with the baby and she, with my friend, helped me to finish the smocking I had begun and to sew together the beautiful christening gown with a bonnet as well.  I found smocking ~ and eventually sewing ~ to be such a different release of energy from my everyday duties as a Signal Officer that I continued to do it. I made many dresses for my little girls. Eventually I branched out into other things: for the home, for myself, for my nieces and nephews.  I really enjoy sewing.
Now as a retired Soldier, married to an Active Duty Soldier currently deployed,  I have time to sew many things. My handbags, aprons, Christmas stockings and custom work are my way of staying in touch with the military community while doing what I love to do ~ on my own terms and schedule!! What job could be more rewarding!!

We were recently honored with a nomination for a small business contest called Shine A Light. Althought the contest is over we would like to share our nomination essay...

Going Green with Tamasine has never been more fun! After spending 20 years in the military in BDUs (Battle Dress Uniform, A.K.A. “Camos”), Tamasine retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.  Retirement gave Tamasine the luxury of living out her inner Martha Stewart. Sewing and smocking became a passion that would not be denied. As Tamasine’s talents grew in the sewing department, her laundry of BDUs continued to grow as well. It just so happens that her husband is active duty. One day Tamasine got the brilliant idea to take the old BDUs and create something new. A line of bags and aprons were quickly in demand, which was followed by her always fun Christmas Stocking made from BDUs. In recycling BDUs of actual soldiers, she is paying tribute to our troops by preserving their time spent serving our country. Having a bag or an apron made from the uniform of a soldier, or a soldier you know, keeps them close to your heart and puts a smile on your face. But it is not just about the military for Tamasine’s Camo Green, its about heritage. Mothers can have scout uniforms converted into pocket books. Grandfathers can pass on cherished fishing vests converted into the perfect messenger bag. I proudly nominate Tamasine because she is an inspiration in ingenuity, strength, and optimism. She continues to keep the homefires burning strong while her husband is currently deployed in Afghanistan. As Tamasine always says, we are HOME OF THE FREE BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE!
